Occupational Therapy

The aim of Occupational Therapy (O.T.) is to maximise independence in everyday activities and the enjoyment of leisure interests. Each patient will receive a full Occupational Therapy assessment to identify any functional or emotional needs. Following this a treatment plan will be agreed between the patient and therapist.

Occupational Therapy treatments available at the Oaks include:

  • Relaxation Training. Progressive muscular and guided visualisation techniques
  • Anxiety Management
  • Anger Management
  • Assertiveness Training
  • Participation in purposeful activities and creative hobbies e.g. cooking, gardening, poetry
  • Fatigue management
  • Facilitated self expression through creative therapies such as music, poetry, writing or art
  • Creative Writing
  • Assessment of mobility e.g. referral for wheelchairs
  • Memory recording e.g. memory books, boxes or video diaries
  • Assessment of functional transfers e.g. getting into and out of the bath or on and off a chair
  • Provision of equipment and advice on adaptations for home

Occupational Therapy activities may be carried out on a one to one or group basis depending on individual needs.
